How do i get my idle lower? I just performed the TB mod and so now i only have the one idle setting screw.. it idles at 1500 rpm with the screw not even touching the cam. What could be causing my high idle and how do i get it lower?

Also when the car starts to warm up theres a wierd "throaty" tone coming from my air filter thats not there when its cold. It doesnt sound normal.. almost like if you do your best death metal yell combined with an air compressor motor... the car seems to not boost as easily when this sound is being made. Any ideas?

 

well most likely one of your butterflys is not closing enough

 

well, the high idle could be from a vac line leak or improperly sealed throttle shaft hole or soemthing. The sound... i dunno

 

Butterflys close fine, i just had the throttle body out and checked its performance. I bought a can of starter fluid and have been checking for vac leaks but havent found any? YET at least... any ideas??

 

is the throttle cable too tight? does the metal part fo the throttle body sit against the screw?

 

The throttle cable is not too tight. It does it even when butterflys are fully closed.

Uhh im going to say no, the screw is operational

 

Im not sure what you did, but you should still have 2 adjustment screws. one on the secondarys, and one on the primary. also if it is non turbo, the one on top of the throttle body.

maybe you should post a few pics of your throttle. cause i have never sen a TBmod that removes either adjustment screws.

you may also want to double check you throttle cable. on my car, iven when there is some slack in the cable, it is putting light tension on the rotater. maybe check you dash pot also.

and where is this magic second idle screw your talking about? the only adjustment screws ive ever seen on the throttle body are the TPS and the one one the rotator

 

There is an adjustment screw that is for setting how far the butterflys will close. It is a screw with no head and a small nut to keep it from coming loose. If this is on the 10th AE as in your sig, then you will need to remove the TMIC to get to the screw. After I did emissions removal, my idle was 1500. Don't expect to get it perfect the first time.

 

Yes this is for the AE. In the write-up it says theres only one adjustment screw. I think i know the little 'no head' screw you're talking about... ill try scoping that out in daylight.

The dashpots are removed via the TB mod. ANd my cable is so loose right now it actually falls off sometimes
