Car hesitation EVERYWHERE

okay i had this problem before but not this bad before it used to hesitate only on sharp turns. I would go through the turn and the car would hesitate for about a couple seconds once i got out of the turn, im sure the fuel sock was the problem but i just changed the oil and the problem went away. this was about 2-3 months ago.

2 days ago i noticed the car detonating when i warm it up alot. i also notice lack of power it is a little slower then usual. and now it is just bogging everywhere im just sitting at a light and it acts as if its out of gas and when the light turns green and i go it just stutters like it is out of gas. also when i turn it off it runs good for about a minute or so. it also acts like its gonna die out when i brake hard to a complete stop. and also i can just be driving straight and it boggs around 3-4k.

car is an 87 se.

i just wanna be sure that its the fuel sock because i dont really have any money.

If you think its your fuel sock you can just go ahead and take a look at it, its fairly easy to take the pump assembly out. It could also be your fuel filter. Something else you might want to check is your spark plugs that could also point you in the right direction.

Cutting out during turns is going to be a dirty fuel sock, so pull the fuel pump assembly and clean it already. It's a really easy job (30 - 45 minutes tops). Just be sure to soak the phillips head screws w/ WD-40 first. If it cut out once, the dirt / rust isn't going to leave the tank / sock on its own.

You could confirm the fuel sock or fuel filter as a problem, but it'd take more work/money to buy a pressure gauge and test fuel pressure, than it would to replace the sock and filter. The filter is about $20, and the sock may be less. If you're really strapped for cash, you can try to clean the sock out with high pressure water. Do this with the sock removed from the fuel pump assembly obviously.
