Prob can get that strut bar off by lowering the car. If that doesn't work then just raise one side up a little bit.

So you are going to take the hood off

I cannot for the life of me figure out what that dude is standing on int he engine bay. What is he standing on?

Hes standing on the fan shroud because he cant get it out. Take out the clutch fan, and it will come out even easier. 5-10 minutes at a max.

if you are having trouble with the skidplate, maybe the engine swap should be left to someone more experienced.

Wrong.

As said before, everything was already taken out. We were standing on a breaker bar (with a 19mm) .. to try and break loose the engine....

After 2 hours of spending on the car tonight, we finally got the UIM off, radiator fluid out (not the one near the driver's side though.)

What does this have to do with rebuilding an engine? I was merely having problems finding the rest of the bolts for the skidplate -which we had gotten off.

exactly, how can you expect to pull a motor, rebuild it and reinstall it, if you are having problems finding skidplate bolts, and it took you 2 hours to remove just the UIM and drain the rad. If you feel it is something you can do, good luck, it just sounds like you may not be ready for that big of project yet. You have to cinsider your time as a cost factor. If it takes you a month what you could pay someone to do in a week, what is more cost effective? I did not intend to upset you, sorry. Just giving my useless advice....

i dont see a fan shroud in that pic as you can see by the 2nd picture..im standing on a wrench attached to the bolt on the eccentric shaft...trying to get the motor to turn in either direction. what makes you think a fan shroud could support the weight of a person?

Are you guys just assuming everything I say or not reading?

The shroud has been off, the fan has been off. We took the belts off for the A/C, P/S was already off, ATL and the last one.

He was just standing on the breaker bar to Try and MOVE the engine.. but didn't work.

wpgrexx -

Well lets see... this is my first time ever getting really deep into my engine. i've never really taken off anything of the engine - besides replacing a few parts (Are you telling me you knew how to do this the first time you worked on your 7? )

I was having problems fidning the other skidplate bolts because the car wasn't jacked up all the way, oops, My bad! ...

It didn't take two hours to drain the rad, once we got off the skidplate - we drained it -haven't done the one near the driver's side , because it's unreachable right now.

I say we were working on the car off and on for 2 hours - yes we were having problems with the UIM - Is that such a big deal?

I'm rebuilding it to learn more about it.... I don't have $3000 or so on me to get it rebuilt.

I dont understand the purpose of trying to get the engine to turn. Let's assume you blew an apex seal, and its still partly set in the apex of the rotor... If you snap what is keeping it stuck, you may drag a very sharp piece of metal across the rotor housing, and render it unuseable in the rebuild process, thus increasing your cost even more. And for the $3000 thing, Kevin Landers rebuilds S4 motors for $1000 and up.

Yeah, I know about Kevin Landers, but my dad is the say about who's gonna rebuild the engines or not......since he has the money for it....

Anyway, I'm taking the UIM off just to get half the crap not needed on the engine when I pull her.

Robert - Glad I'm making you laugh....

well tell your dad you can spend 600 on your own parts, and 'learn,' possibly having to rebuild again in a short time, because you 'learned' wrong, or spend $1000 now, have it done by kevin, and then sleep easily knowing your engine isnt going to pop after 20k because it was rebuilt by a professional who knows what he's doing.

Well, After reading enough on this topic, I think I have figured out Christi's approach to this whole thing. Despite what many of us do not understand, she is going about things in an odd way.

We already know the engine is bad, and must come out and apart, but they continue to try and turn it and check it internally. We already know it is possible, and probably easier, to pull the engine as a whole, but they continue to take things apart.

For those who havent figured it out, this is probably Christi's first mechanical challenge on a 7, and *SHE WANTS TO PLAY WITH IT* and see what all she can learn. Not because there is any reason in the world for doing so, other than that it is her own car, it is torn up, and she really cant screw it up much worse at this point
