Exclamation Car feels like wobbling at idle, is it the flywheel warped?

Ok guys I have a question.

For a little while now, actually about a month, when I drive the car, mostly in reverse and when i downshift in a parking lot I can hear some scraping noise comming from the tranny as I engage the clutch, sounds just like a scraping brake disk and changes with engine speed and goes away if I disengage the clutch. So it is obvoiously the clutch contacting the surface of the flywheel so what exactly is that noise? Is something loose? I dont have any slippage.

Now over the last two weeks i notice the car seems louder at speed for some reason, not in the exhaust but more from the drive train, and now at idle and not in gear the car shudders a bit, but not all the time, but it doesnt seem to come from the engine, it really feels like something is out of balance, the rpm does jump a little bit, but it seems more for compensation. Anyone have any ideas? COuld my flywheel be warped and causing that scratching sound?

i think the initial noise you mention could be the pilot bearing in the end of the E shaft, that only spins when the clucth is disengaged, once the flywheel and clutch mate the shaft spins with the spline so the pilot bearing does nothing. Also once that wears out the gear box spline doesnt sit centrally in the e shaft so could cause a wobble. I wasted a gearbox when my Pilot bearing disintegrated.

you more then likely do have slipppage that you cannot notice(yes it possible), that it creates the scratching noise.

if you dont know what the problem is but you have a general idea where the noise is coming from, then its time to do a clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel job.

get a new clutch disc, PP, throw-out bearing, pilot bearing, and pilot bearing seal.

remove the FW and clean and inspect it thoroughly. if there is anything out of whack that a machine shop cannot fix then its time to buy a new FW. if the FW still looks good then you can get away with resurfacing.

assemble the components applying grease on the throw-out bearing and the pilot bearing and insert the pilot bearing seal. install the FW, then the disc, and then PP. bolt the tranny back on and youre good.

it'll cost a bit for those components but will save the headache of changing something else that is in the clutch system. then you'll only need to worry about the tranny

Could your tranny be low on fluid? My trans had a "grinding" noise too and it turned out there was very little fluid...
