car feeling like a heater

the car runs, fine and powerful, but when im driving it feels like im driving with the heater on. The car heats up pretty quick now, im not sure what the problem is. Is it normal because the car is quite old? i checked the coolant and it's still full. I think the heat is coming from the transmission because the shift boot gets really hot, but im not sure if that's the case too. Has anyone faced this problem before?

Yeah, my S4 GXL does the same thing. cept i know its not my tranny. If i put my hand up to my heater vents i can feel warm air comming out. What i have to do to minimize it is; set it to draw air from inside the car. put it on the defrost setting and cold air. it seems to help. but sometimes it still feels like its still commen out. thats when the sunroof opens up.

If you say the heat is coming up from the shift boot, try checking the padding around it then check you heat shields under the car. Just a thought

yeah if your bushings and everything in there is gone, then you could get some extra heat from there.

i had an old fire bird....89 i believe(not 100% sure) and it wa an auto, but we would always have to roll down the windows because the cabin would heat up so much. i always thought that it was because the engine made so much heat and it was just coming back into the cabin through the vents.

i am installing a large after market exhaust, you think if I leave the heat sheilds out I will be ok?

This is a fully gutted track car, but I dont think the shields will make that much of a difference

i get the same thing

the vents push out a shitload of heat you can close them but then it just comes out to the floor

best bet is just to turn it to cold air and it doesnt feel so bad

sometimes the heat comes out from the vents too, but sometimes i feel the heat escalating from the shift boot. I'm probably going to take a look at my tranny soon, but the heat coming out from the vents, i dont know what problem that is.

it seems like if theres alot of heat coming from the trany, its when the trany is going bad, bearings are going bad or somthing, and creating alot of friction and that heats it up, like if the metal part of the shifter is burning hot, its ussually a good sign the trany is going bad....

at least it was in my case!

if its getting really hot, such as it almost burns your hand on the shifter, i would check your catalytic converter if you have one. in my very first mazda rx7 i owned this happened to me after installing the first rebuild i bought, they gutted it out and problem fixed. after that incident i no longer think the heat that the rx7 naturally produces hot anymore and its winter its a nice feature to have. especially when your heat doesnt work currently

I'm getting this too, however it's coming from the vents. Would that being coming from the engine bay? If so, how do I fix it?

i have a 91 coup ... i put a header wrap on the manifold and the cab temps droped WAY off ... even when im pushing her real hard. engine bay stays much cooler 2. if you take your time and wrap it well this will work 4 u 2. make sure that your exhaust can take the extra heat because thats were it will be going. i got mine from jegs.com for about 75.00 + s/h ... 2 per box ... my first wrap has about 10k on it and is still working great.

I don't have that problem. When it's cold outside I use some warm winter gloves, or just tell who ever is driving with me to blow hot air while the windows are closed.....hopefully he or she didn't eat any garlic.

I would moste likely bet that your cats are getting a little bit clogged and that will produce alot of heat in that area. Tranny is another possibility but i'm willing to bet its a clogged cat.

I remember that when i switched to a better thermostat the heat coming from the bottom of my old 88 gxl went way down. But i alsoithink that this could be a good result of your cats getting too hot. I once heard of someone checking a heater core a long time ago on a problem like this too. But I do remember that i had this same problem and all I did was replace the thermostat.

BUt come to think of it, I only heard of these probs occuring with s4's. ?????

For those having problems with heat coming out of the vents when the heat is not on. This can be caused by a couple of things. First check the heater control valve located on the heater core inlet hose. If it goes bad they usually stay open and with just enough airflow you will feel the heat coming from the vents. The other thing is the hvac controls may be broken and not closing the HCV either way this is a very common thing in colder climates for any car.
