i'm trying to figure out a problem and stumbled on here.....to check spark pull the L1 plug wire and place near strut tower bolt. take out the cas and spin the shaft with it plugged in, the plug wire should arc over to the bolt. if it arcs it has spark...................i tried this today and finally got some spark in the leading coils only when i unplugged the traling coils. wierd huh? my project fired up for a sec then just died. woot!! progress!!! maybe this will help. or can someone help me?

If you got spark ONLY when the trail coils were disconnected, then pull the harness plugs off the trail coil assy (not sparkplug wires, the electrical harness'es two plugs) and try to start it.

Trail coils offer almost nothing to the ability to start the car so don't worry about it not working/disconnected. Maybe the trail coil is dragging down the voltage to the Lead coil assy.

More right than not. The only other thing would be if the cas was waaaaaaay off.

For spark, make sure the ENGINE fuse is good. It's in the interior fuse box. Third row up from the bottom

A "chunked cat" will not prevent the engine from starting.

Neither will having spark, and fuel, which it supposedly has. I was just throwing out any little possibility... I'm sure it won't start if you block off the intake.
