Car dies when let off ignition.

Ok, so I have an S4 GXL that has been sitting for a few months.

I went to start it up this weekend and could start it but not get it to keep running.

The car would start like normal with the key in the start position but as soon as I return it to the run position the car dies instantly. What could be the problem? Bad Relay? Bad Ignition switch? Everything was working fine when i parked it a few months ago.

Definitely sounds like the ignition switch has got some issues. Might want to take it apart and have a look.

Idiot lights turning on when you turn ign. on (engine off)? If so, the ign. switch is fine, and I'd move on to check the AFM fuel pump switch. You turn ign. on, remove air filter, and move the flap inside the AFM, and see if you start hearing the fuel rail pressurize. Try that and get back to us.

Thanks for the input guys its definitely the switch. I checked the idiot lights like pfsantos said and i noticed they wouldn't stay on unless i held the key up (toward ignition) a little bit. I started the car and sure enough it keeps running when i hold the key in place, as soon as a I let go it stops.

So you say i can take the switch apart, is it an easy fix? Would it be cheaper/easier to just replace the switch? Who would sell that I can't seem to find it on mazdatrix...

Thanks again for your help guys!
