Car dies on left turns

Hello, my friend has an 86 GXL all stock aside from cold start assist gone.

when he makes a hard-ish left hand turn his car completely dies out, but then continues on like nothing ever happened.

Anyone run into this before? I'm assuming its a wire shorting out somewhere, but is there a common place to look? insight?

Thanks!

As cmanns says, it may be the fuel sock. That is, the filter attached to the bottom of the fuel pump. At least, that's the common forum answer for this fairly common problem. Get a copy of the factory shop manual (free) from one of the download sites in the FAQ. Make sure you release the fuel pressure before disconnecting the fuel lines. Actually, even if you release the pressure according the the manual, there will still be some pressure remaining in the lines. Hold a large rag around the hose as you remove it to catch the fuel.

And like cmanns says also, it wouldn't hurt to replace the main fuel filter as well. That filter is in the engine compartment. See the manual.

Either all of the above, or the baffle in the tank have rusted away, allowing fuel to rush away from the pump on hard turns.
