Can't open fuel tank

I finally got my 1987 FC Turbo repaired from a minor accident and I drove it pretty much all day today. Of course I'm running at E, so I pop in the nearest gas station and try to open the cover to get some food in my baby.

click. click. click.

I look back, it isn't open. I try prying it a bit, doesn't work. Nothing works :< I don't hear it popping open, I just hear a click coming from the back of the driver's side. So I read a bit and I'm wondering if the connection is broken, since it says in the Haynes manual that it is in the rear left. Any help with this?

the ball on the end of the cable could be not attatched to the release mechanism

plus you can open the door buy pulling back the panel in rear right on the side and doing somtheing with the cable i think

good luck,
kyle
