cant get trans into 2nd

last week i swapped an auto for a manual, everything went fine and we got it running, but i can get it to go into second. the guy i bought the trans from said it was just rebuilt, but that could be a lie. today i replaced the shifter bushings since the ones were shot that were in there. still no luck, if you try to pull it into gear you can here a light grinding noise(sycro maybe, does not sound like gears grinding). once we got it into 2nd by double clucthing, but only that one time. no other gears grind or make any noises, i just can get it into 2nd.

what should i check / replace?

Can you get it into second when the engine is OFF? The one tiime you got it into second, did it grind when you shifted out of second?

you can pull the shifter and it will go into second, well the shifter is in the position of where second is and you can hear stuff move around when you pull it into second. when the car is off you can put the shifter into 2nd but i have no idea what is going on inside the gearbox.

i dont think the trans ground when we shifted to 3rd from 2nd.

im getting sick of sifting from 1-3, help me

who did the rebuild? I doubt its something that can be fixed with the tranny in the car. If you were having a problem with all gears, I would say maybe throw out bearing or pilot bearing, but this is only specific to 2nd gear. Could be the 2nd gear syncro. If some amatuer did the rebuild, then who knows, it could be a screw driver left in the gear box
