Unhappy cant find a nice priced turbo2

See my problem is: I have an 87 GXL, but I dont think it will go as fast as I would like...

So screw the naturally aspirated and get a turbo right?

well... I dont have that much money.. probably around a grand.. i cannot find a RUNNING turbo2 for a grand or under.

another note: im the most unlucky person in the world.... and.... yea :o

You are gonna pay at least 1800 for a running one, that's the cheapest ive ever found for a running turbo II. Ive heard stories of people buying one from their uncle or whatever for 500, but that's not realistic unless a family member likes em . Me personally, Ive got an 88 GTU, and ive been looking for a turbo for a long time, a nice one. Im willing to shell out 4-5k, but i just havent found the right one yet.

my prob:

the 87 GXL needs about 1.5 grand to get it running nice, and looking decent

in which, id really rather buy a $800 turboII that is barely running and then tune it up...

anyone get my point :/

why im pissed...

is that i want a fast car.

im 18, and a senior in high school

there is a dude with a n/a supra.. probably around 89 model
with a fart can, and a wing on it

I really dont want to go with a N/A 7 with 180 thousand miles on it, and get punked by some supra ***

I want to represent the 7s to the fullest...

The odds are less than slim for you to find a TII for $800, unless you find it at a junkyard, and even then it is probably been gone through already. They are out there, the problem is finding them. You could also ponder the option of converting it to TII rather than buying a TII. I am still waiting for my dreamcar...a 1993 CYM FD with under 20K original Hey, I can dream can't I?

see i thought about that.
but the problem is:

i heard its somewhat a bitch to turn the GXL to a TII .. and more costly then buying a new turbo II

hell at least i know i can get the hood for 100 bucks... but the suspension and brakes are also different if im not mistaken?

input?

Despite what everyone around here says I'm starting to think that it's actually more feasible to convert an n/a model to a turbo, if you have the time, skills, and equipment for such a swap. The parts are out there, you just have to round them up.

http://www.corksport.com/ Offers a jap spec turbo engine from the '87-'88 RX-7 for $850. I think this comes with the turbo, ECU, and most of the needed accessories. I've never dealt with them so I'm unsure of what kind of quality to expect from these guys.

I've considered this swap for my convertible, they offer the '89-'91 turbo engines $950.

All you have to round up after that is the tranny back to the half shafts.

Turbo II's are hard to find, and turbo convertibles are even more rare.

hmm

i have heard that the 89-92 engines are made better then the 86-88

what would be the difficulties in putting an 89-92 TII in an 87 GXL?
