Can you paint the radio surround??

I just bought a S5 radio surround the rubbery kind. Has anyone tried painting one of these? I want to paint a lot of my interior an silver color to compliment my silver paint job, has anyone done this and had the paint stay on good? If so what prep did you use?

My boy painted his with regular paint (spray paint). We laughed at him, but the paint held. Dont know why...

I painted it first with a special fiberglass primer (any paint store should have it, or just normal primer), then lightly sanded theprimer to scratch it up a bit; and then about 5 coats of maza sunrise red (yeah had some leftover.) Clear coated it 3 times. Held up for 2 winters in -10 degree weather up to 110 degree summers. only one small crack where I accidentaly scratched the paint near the ashtray on trying to rewire everything. I painted the idiot cluster surround, radio surround, and middle console (change holder thing and lid) red. Made it look like a bright red racing stripe went straight trhough the interior. Very awesome. I think the supplies not including the maza paint was around 25 dollars total (primer + clear coats)

i was always careful not to bend or flex the surrounds much though, as i figured it would cause some paint flexing which would be hell to it. good luck

btw it lasted two years because i ended up sanding it down to the rubber, and doing it over again in flat black. I like the very smooth feeling it has now, though had to use fiberglass filler. Wasn't really worth it in the end i guess, but still!

Cool, I have a vert that I am going to paint metallic silver and I want a lot of the interior to have that theme. So far I have a black and silver steering wheel, white gauges, aluminum gauge bezel, and I am getting a silver stereo (Pioneer MP3) it's an awesome unit, I have one in another car. I also plan to paint the same things as you to give the car that BMW Z4 interior look. Add to that my Corksport kit, chrome wheels, and the custom RE-amemiya type headlights and It should be a real head turner. I want it to look custom without looking rice. I will be posting pics when I get the car together.
