It can work, but it will need re-wired. Search on here for the wiring diagram if you are really interested, but I dont recommend it. Just clean yours if it is dirty..
Id suggest removing it, going over it with a wire brush and maybe a light sandpaper, then giving it a clearcoat. You can even paint it, like I did

^^^^ dude, everyone knows the s5 afm flows better.

but probobly not enough to go through the trouble, besides once you get to the point where the afm is the biggest restriction its time to go standalone any way.

I think you're probably the only one who "knows" this.. S5 AFMS place a huge restriction in the airway, as opposed to the S4 where the door is just pushed out of the way. Plus the S4 AFM has a larger area inlet over the S5...

Got any facts or trial data to show us? I haven't gotten an S5 plug in yet from ebay so I don't have facts either but I have oppinions from people more knowledgeable than all of the people in this thread put together so I trust them.

No I don't think we are dummies...well...maybe me But REted and the other higher up members mainly agree that the S4 has more flow potential so i would say their collective knowledge is greater than our collective knowledge.

Yeah he posted in my thread. But HP increase doesn't mean its better flowing. A simple variation in tire pressure could change HP readouts for a Dyno run.

Because the S5 one is cheaper.

You're probably right. Mazda marketing claimed that the AFM was an "Improved Design", yet it was probably just anouther way to save money in production.

Hey NZ, don't you ever get sick repling to all these AFM threads?

I would guess they used the new s5 meter cause its smaller.... The both provide pretty much the same air flow and do the same thing so why stick with something bigger.

He might not be, but I'm getting sick of AFM threads that often contain all the same (wrong) information.

I think that if it was truly an improved design it would have carried over to the Miata, which used a S4 style flapper type for years after the FC production was stopped.

The only advantage I see for the S5 design in a packaging issue, as the S5 AFM uses considerably less space.
