Can a turbo go bad from sitting for a while?

I'm looking to buy a new turbo, but it's been sitting uninstalled for over 5 years. Can the seals go bad from sitting for that long? Thanks!!!

from what I remember all the seals were metal, so it should be ok if it was lubed before stored, and not exposed to too much moisture

If it smells like cheese..then I'd get another one!
If it still spins then I would pre-oil it before I Install and run it.(that is if it was good when it was last used)

I like cheese though. I actually found a Knightsports RF320 that just got rebuilt and rebalanced by a shop. Thanks for the good info though!!!
