Can a T2 to N/a drive shaft still fit on a complete na transmission and rear end?
 

The reason I am asking is because I happened to go to the junkyard and I found a car that had either a t2 engine with an na flywheel and transmission or a 6port turbo setup. The engine was already pulled so I couldn't verify. Anyway the transmission and everything further back was still there. Once I got under the car I noticed that it was an N/A transmission but the driveshaft was tons bigger than the skimpy N/A ones that I have been using for years. Once I got home I matched it up to an N/A one and it is a bit longer. Just to make sure it wasn't a turbo driveshaft I put it up to my turbo rear end and the bolt holes did not line up as expected being an N/A shaft. With this shaft I'm wondering if this was a custom job or if it is the T2 to N/A shaft from mazdatrix. I will try to get pics today.

That should help to identify if it's a stock drive shaft or a custom.

The are 2 different diameter drive shafts for the N/A.
Both fit.
The TII drive shaft has a bigger input shaft to the Trans,so it will not fit into the tail stock of the N/A.

Huh. I would have thought the TII was closer in length to a NA Auto DS in length. Two inches more, that's much different than expected.......but that's what she said. ;)

Some of the N/A shafts were much thicker. I have one from my S4, and one from an S5 that's at least 1/2 again as big. And to answer, you have to use the driveshaft that matches the transmission for the input shaft, but I believe you can mill out the holes on a TII driveshaft to fit the N/A diff (still need a TII tranny), and probably vice-versa.
