can i mod this w/o a new computer

87, GXL
CAI (with box as soon as i can figue out how to route some airflow from brakes)
high flow exhaust "(fabbed; i need some mufflers!!)
boring Tb and porting next week

so what i want to know is if i dont buy a computer upgrade am i going to have trouble with this car running a tII fuel pump and 550 secondaries? would just an A/f autometer be sufficient?
I have gone through the archives and read all the info on this, i just want opinions and expertise (maybe someone who has tried it)
I know it can be made to work, i just want to know how well, and if its helping or hurting without a comp.

That car doesn't need a computer, fuel pump, OR bigger secondaries. In fact, you should pick up an S-AFC or S-AFR to lean it out. Even with bolt-ons, N/A's run pig rich.

I dyno'ed my N/A with bolt-ons and it still dove to 10:1 A/F by redline.

Kai is right, your car doesn't need a computer, fuel pump, or bigger injectors. The S-Afc will help out to lean your already rich mixture. You could use the pump if your running nitrous.

thx, I may run nitrous eventualy, def some forced induction, but i just think i want better fuel pressure at the high rpms, especially since itll be ported, so im gonna put the tII pump on at some point, i hear stock inj handle up to 300 so think ill get mine cleaned instead of buying new secondaries.

anyone got a good deal on a safc/afr?

Until you install something serious, fuel pressure at upper RPM's is still perfectly fine. Raising the fuel pressure now will only lower the power output and up the fuel consumption.
