Can I Make My Stock TII BOV Sound Louder? I Love It!

Hey Guys!

I've had my TII for about 3 months now and was debating on whether or not I should get a performance BOV and which one to get. I only recently started to hear the sound of the stock BOV and I LOVE the sound of it. So is there anyway to adjust the stock BOV to make it louder?

Thanks for any suggestions!

wierd, i couldnt hear my stock *air bypass valve*. There isnt a way to adjust it, just get an aftermarket one.

I have a greddy type-s bov, i like it. Some people have diff opinions and prefer different ones. Are you looking for a loud one? Look into an apex'i, turbo xs rfl, or a hks ssqv. From what ive heard the greddy is a lil quieter.

I second this. The hks ssqv is fuckign nice. You can adjust it from a shreik down to a shudder. I wish i had the extra 4150 buck to pick one up.

Oh man really? Yeah it is possible to hear it! The ABV I mean It's quite, but the best way to hear it is to drive with the windows up, fans and music off. its studdle but i love the sound and hence the reason why it took me a while to hear it. I know this sounds stupid but if you ever play battle gear 3, you'll hear exactly what it sounds like, they got it down to a tee.

take out the insert of the hks ssqv and its much quieter

however i hate these kind of questions... if it was was one of my priorities i would reroute the bov back into the intake

Just for the fun of it, you can vent the stock CPV to the atmosphere.
You need a check valve to keep it from leaking under vacuum.
Here's my $8 Home Depot BOV.

sound clips..??? I want to do the homemade bov, hence there is no performance gain anyways, just makes sound, and i'm not going to pay $200 for the tsssss, even though its music to my ears!

So hey man, how much would you charge me if i send you mine and you did that to mine? Is it louder than the performance ones or about even or little less loud?

It's a really simple DIY project.
It's a 1" PVC slip fitting check valve (Home Depot well stuff).
There is a 1" piece of hose on the CPV outlet.
The check is just stuck on the hose with a drop of super glue.
The outlet of the check valve is cut off.
The drilled holes make no difference in sound or performance. They're just for Show.
A little satin black paint & it looks kind of stock.

uhhh... didn't you have to plug your tid hole that you created? when you pull off the abv it'll leave a hole where it used to be conected to the tid.... so did you cap it? otherwise meterd air would blow out the hole and cause your car to run extremly rich

His car wouldn't run with a vacuum leak that big.
Venting the stock valve to atmosphere is a waste of perfectly good pressurized air and will cause your car to run rich between shifts.

I made a cold air intake that comes out in front of the right wheel. You can hear the stock blow off valve clear as day. I think it is much better sounding than most aftermarkets I've heard, its very smooth and doesn't ripple like the others. Just replace the stock air box with a cold air intake and you will hear it much better. Plus you will gain some power too.

YES! Thank You! The sound is SO smooth and beats any aftermarket bov. I plan to do that upgrade after the winter so i'll be looking for the good results.

Do the home depot check valve mod, vent to atmosphere and point it towards the passenger side of the firewall. It's very noticeable.

Sounds like the car would turn into a flame thrower then if you didn't have your cats.

if you want a aftermarket BOV that sounds kinda like the stock one i have a Apexi Twin Chamber welded to a 6" pipe im selling for 100 bucks. its just a loud rush of air w/ no whistle at all. fits perfectly between the turbo and intercooler piping

To answer some of the above comments.

It seals well and does not leak under vacuum.

The AFR does go rich and it backfires when the throttle first snaps shut.

With just a TID & a high flow air filter I got compressor surges.
(zoom ch-ch-ch-ch - pow)
When I installed a heat shield with a cold air pipe to the stock (restrictive) shorkel the surges disappeared.
(zoom chhhhhhh - pow)

I guess I don't quite understand what your saying here but if I got a 3" TID and high flow air filter it will have surges?

Also I don't understand anything you said after that about a heat shield and stock shorkel. Can you explain what you did in a little more detail (in stupid people terms) to help with this problem?

OK I did the atmosphere venting BOV mod with stock TID and it sounds SWEET!!!

I pointed it toward the passenger side and now I can hear it better than the turbo spooling.

I still would like to know how you would stop compressor surges with the BOV mod if I went to a 3" TID though. SURESHOT???

maybe he means boost creep? i don't understand either. Anyways, i also did a similar modification to my turbo II's stock bypass valve, but i couldn't find a check valve to fit because i read that the connection is 3/8" but i think that is 3/8" I.D. so i went to a plumbing store and finally found a copper check valve for water but it worked for air anyway and it fit inside the end of the factory bov then i wrapped the connection with electrical tape to seal any leaks. i also made my own intake out of pvc pipe (not recommended). the sound is very smooth as mentioned before, and it is more of a rush of air rather than a whistle. and flames do protrude through my 4.5" exhaust tip of the end of my 3" turbo back striaght thru exhaust. btw, this 3/8" copper check valve i bought was like $18 bucks so i suggest the way shown above.

I hope to finish my engine port & rebuild over Thanksgiving, so the CAI may get some ram air supply by next month.

In the meantime, this is my crude CAI & BOV.
