no. you can make sure the shift assembly has fluid in it though.

Nice illustration SureShot.

There should be a small amount of fluid inside the shifter assembly so that the shifter functions smoothly. You can't fill the entire tranny through the shifter though, you have to add it from underneath the car. If you're replacing tranny fluid you should probably change out diff. fluid as well.

Yeah I used a modified version of your pump with a Arizona IceTea Gallon jug and it worked great.

another question about filling the tranny fluid.

let's say i took the bad tranny out and put another tranny in. could i fill the new one BEFORE i put it in? i know it would leak on the side where the driveline goes, maybe i could plug that side up?... but what about the front? i don't think any fluid runs through there, cuz the clutch is RIGHT THERE.

sorry to ask, but i threw my old tranny away and i'm waiting for my new one. so i have nothing to look at.
thanks

Aaron, you've missed the main drain plug off your picture of the Turbo's gearbox. There are two, and you're only arrowed the little one.

Damn good idea though.

instead of doing what aaron did, i just threaded a long hose down from the engine bay into the tranny worked fine, no spills

takes 2 to do tho

this is what i found out about putting the fluid it before you put the tranny in. There is a speedomiter cable( that is atached to the car) that when you detach it, it will drain all the fluid out. so not really, the only way would be is to disconnect the speedo cable from the car. But just put the tranny in that then fill it full. it's really not that hard at all man.

I just used a cheap hand pump from autozone or whatever and it actually worked really well. And I didn't have to sit there for 20 minutes pumping the handle either. Its not exactly the most comfortable thing sitting under the car and using the hand pump, but it worked well.
