can a bad Turbo timer cause you car not to start correctly?

For about 2 weeks now I've been having trouble starting my 90 TII. I can't figure it out and niether can Mazda. They checked just about everything. Here are my observations during start up: Sometimes you need to try to start it more than ounce, Need to push gas pedal, feels like it needs gas, Sputters for a few seconds and then idles correctly, mostly happens when engine is cold. Tonight when I started it I obsreved the turbo timer starting its countdown. Could the timer be bad and causing a problem with my ignition? Could it just be a loose connection? Could it be a bad ignition?

Positve I'm not flooding! I have a power button. What should I expect to see besides my car run? Or should I turn it off before I start it?
