Can anyone identify this accessory on the upper intake manifold?

I'm not sure what this thing is or what it does. I spent an hour with the FSM and still couldn't figure out what this thing is, what it does, and where the line on it is supposed to be connected. Can it be removed and blocked off? Looks like the line goes into the intake manifold or in the intake its self. Help!

S4 or S5? I can see the aux port actuators, so it's an NA. My (totally uneducated, don't take it as gospel or even a reliable guess) looks like it is off of a S4 mani from where the sub zero cold start assist hooks up. Looks like it's just the sub zero cold start assist on a S4.

Sorry, forgot you mention that yes, its an S4 n/a (87). If that is the other part of the cold start assist system that explains a lot. I have the harness for that unplugged up there by the passenger firewall taped off. That also explains why we wouldn't see it in the documentation anywhere. They were all recalled and disababled due to not correctly working right?

Any reasone why I couldn't remove it and block it off?
