Can anyone help me?
First off I have an 86 GXL automatic. Yes, it sucks to be auto.
My problem is that it just doesn't work right. Three problems really.
1. The overdrive switch doesn't do anything.
2. The shift pattern is messed up.
3. It has no kick to it.
Slamming the gas pedal really has no effect. The car doesn't kick down into a lower gear. I know it's not the tranny itself cause I already switched it for other reasons. But the problem was present before that too.

The problem has been there ever since I got the car. I thought that it was a shitty transmission too. Especially since the car had 128000 miles on it. But the reason I bought it anyway was cause I had my old one that got wrecked. That's why I got another auto too, cause it was the same as my old one and I figured that would be best for salvaging my old parts. But my old one ran perfectly at 90000 on tranny and 10000 on motor.

So the tranny didnt shift to your liking before, and you swapped it, adn it still doesnt shift right...so you think theyre both shitty trannies? Well guess what...youre right. You know why? They ALL are! FOr whatever reason the FC auto trans. is the weakest auto Ive ever seen, next to maybe a 700r4. Ive had about 8 FC automatics and they all are weak. They dont kick down well, and when they do they jerk really hard. THe OD usually works though, Id check the switch and power supply to the circuit for that. The only way to get an auto to shift the way it should(like you want) is to powershift it yourself. IN their defense, if you manually shift its points for it, they will run really well, and Ive run with 5speed rx7s before with an auto. About the only cure for this is to have it rebuilt with stronger internal parts, and to set it up so it shifts harder(this can be done by a good rebuilder).
If you need an auto tranny to rebuild or something I have one with 2nd gear out of it you can have.

Let me give you a better example of the kick.
Say I'm going 50mph and I want to speed up. I floor the pedal and it doesn't kick. It just slowly creeps up in speed and rpm's.
