Camden Supercharger

I have an 86 with 50k mi. i believe its a base model since there are no pw, pwr steering, cruise. it does however have a sunroof and a/c. It runs excellent, I have a decent job, and no overhead really. the only thing i dont have is time. I am away from home 1- 1 & 1/2 months at a time. Im not planning on driving this car in the winter.
I am interested in a camden supercharger, i guess they run about 2500 bucks, and the Racing beat true dual exhaust. the kid i bought this 7 from owned several 1st gens and a cpl 2nd gens, I asked him about how big of a job it would be to turbo it, he said he would supercharge it b/c it would be less stressful on the seals, and if i turbo'd it i would need thicker seals. I dont know much about rotorys. is this true, if i bought the supercharger and had it prof. installed, would i be able to run it without having the motor rebuilt and thicker seals installed first? i like the idea of a supercharger better than a turbo. some say to have it street ported, which would be ok if i had time to have the motor taken out and sent away to be done. i just really dont have the time for that. what do you think? please help.

Boost is boost. The only difference is S/C= belt driven, turbo=exhaust driven.

Make sure you have good compression before doing either.

Out of curiosity I priced the 9 inch supercharger from the Camden site for fuel injection and got this:

86-91 Fuel Injected Supercharger Kit includes:
Nine Inch Supercharger Kit $2995.00
Microtech LTX10S
$995.00
Microtech Handset $150.00
Bosch Coils $300.00
TWM Throttle Body $499.95
TPS & Plug-In $140.00
Throttle Body Extensions $70.95
Throttle Body Air Horns $110.00
Injectors (4) $400.00
Top Injector Seats $11.00
Bottom Injector Seats $12.00
Tsunami Aeromotive Fuel Pump $292.99
Aeromotive Pressure Regulator $210.00
Total $6186.89

I'm not normally one to complain about price, but $6000?! Six thousand dollars?!

You have been grossly misinformed regarding the "seals". Mazda used the same 2MM apex seals in the NA and TII, so seal strength is not an issue.

You could use all stock parts to turbocharge the car for well under $1000 and make 250-270HP. See the FAQ for turbo-NA info.

Or you could do the full TII swap for somewhere around $2500 as a starting point and the modify from there. Again, see the FAQ.

The Camden was not a good deal when the full kit retailed for $3500 or so, when it first came out. Because it had issues, they added more parts and made it more expensive. Sorry, but for as much as I like the idea of some low-end torque, the new $6k-ish price tag is just WAY too high.
