called the muffler shop today....
i asked them what it would cost to get some custom piping from the manifold back to a muffler. they asked me what kind of car and what the exhaust configuration looked like and then they asked me if it had a cat. so i told him "yeah, three of them, but i would like to get rid of them." then he said, "sorry, you'll have to find another shop to do that because its against the law."
anyway, im just wondering what i should do now.
1) i could call back and tell them i have no cats and take the exhaust off when i go down there.
2) order parts and try to do it myself
3) or say screw it and get piping from the main cat back
i really would like to hear some opinions or other ideas.

Or
4) try all the muffler shops in town
Every town has at least one shop that would be willing to turn a blind eye. Just don't expect a warrantee.

i had a similar problem...what you do is
1. go to the muffler shop with the car
2. tell them that for off road use only you would like a pipe made.
3. they will size it for you, but you will have to install it yourself
it worked for me, but go there with a stock exhaust.
THEY CANT TAKE A CAT OFF A CAR AND NOT REPLACE IT
thats why they said it was illegal
BUT!
if u do the above, and go with the cats on the car, just tell them that u need a pipe that bolts on so u can use it for racing only
again, it worked for me.....good luck!!

whenever i get to it,i was planning to just get some straight pipe from rb,go and messure under the car,and have a welding or muffler shop weld the pieces together [dual flange/pipe/presilemcers{offset}/pipe/2 single flanges].from what i have looked at,i can easaly have that section straight, just go to find the best spot for it to end to make it all work.then, you can either just bring it into the shop to do all the bends for the cat[presilencer]back system,or,i think i will make a template and have'em make it up[getting the car to the shop w/o mufflers could be a problem].anyway...thats just my plan.

I just made my own test pipe/race pipe/tree killer yesterday. What I did was I took my cats off, cut the starting and ending flanges off of them, and then welded up pipe between. I had a bunch of mandrel bends and straight sections and jsut cut and tack welded them till it all fit and then I took it off the car and welded it all the way around. Worked like a dream.

even though i live in ks and there arent emission laws it was still difficult for me to find a shop. just call around and finally you will find a shop like i did that doesnt give a **** about emissions. i must have tried several muffler shops in the yellow pages but i finally found one. if you cant find one i agree with everyone else just lie and say it is for scca racing or something!
