Question Caliper clearance issue with Work Equip wheels

Hi
I just bought some wheels that I have a clearance issue with the front calipers. the wheels are Work equip 16X7 with 40mm offset, same as oem.
There is a raised square on the outside of the caliper. It is about 1/2" square & 1/4" high. The spokes of the new wheels touch it. If I grind this raised square down about 3/16" the wheel would clear the caliper. Does anyone know if this is ok to do or is it hollow or provide some function?
Thanks

Its ok to grind for clearance...but remember as parts heat up and flex they still may bind.

Thanks for the replies.
I was thinking about spacers & found some 7/32" ones at Summit but was wondering if I would get enough turns on the OEM studs. I would have about 1/4". Do you think that's enough?
