A/C question...

Summer time will come again, and this year i want a good A/C. Last summer it didn't work at all, so my grandpa and I put in some new freon. After that it worked great for about 2-3 weeks then slowly got worse and worse. I would guess it's leaking somewhere? I know if i need a new A/C system or A/C lines i'm going to upgrade to the R-134 or whatever its' called, but i really want my a/c to work. Any help?

thanks,
Marshall

Before you consider converting, you should have a professional track down the leak. Otherwise its just gonna cost you lots of money as time goes by.

They find the leak with dye. You might be able to do it yourself. Just a big tricky finding AC leaks.

dont waste your time tracking down the leak. If you can afford the swap to 134A do it. It is soo easy to get. I think it has R22 which is also somewhat easy to get but you need a license. You are most likely leaking from your hoses. Even if you arent and its you evap or a crack you will not get much life out of you original hoses. I do AC for a living, actually Im apprentacing. But ive already ran across this alot. Customer< I just bought a new evap. now the hoses are leaking>. Trust me do the 134 swap. Put it in yourself and take it to a shop to have it evacuated and charged.

My theory is to stay with the R12 if you have some available. Pretty expensive if you need a shop to charge the system. The R12 will blow colder @ idle and low rpm's. If too costly, just change to the 134. To find a leak, if you don't have a detector, you can put a shot in and look for leaks with Joy dishwasher liquid. It will bubble. You can also use a propane torch with a special adapter, and a rubber hose. The flame color will change when attacked by the freon.

R 134 will BLOW your system. TRUST ME! I have seen it happen.

The best thing to do is either get more R12, or convert to freeze 12.

Uh hello? It has a leak. 134 will leak out too especially since it is under higher pressure!
