A/C function question
Had my RX7 for almost a year now, 1988 NA. The A/C has been converted to R134. The ac is cold and works but only when i HOLD the A/C button in. When i let the button go, the compressor turns off. I was thinking it is the relay for the compressor OR the button on the control unit itself. My question is, does the does button click in and stay in like the rest of the buttons on control unit or does it click in and come back out? Any answers will be a help. Also if anyone knows where i could get an A/c compressor and relay other than a junk yard? Thanks

The button is supposed to stay in. All you have to do is replace the face plate. Head on over to a junk yard it's just a few screws. You don't even need the whole unit, just the face plate, which is good because the whole unit is a pain to remove. Technically you only need to replace that button but well you gotta pull the face plate off anyway might as well swap the whole thing.
Look up how to remove the plastic surrounding that area, if you do it wrong you'll break it in half. Basically be extremely delicate with it and with the vents. Pry the tabs away carefully. Unscrew all the screws before removing the surround. Never pull with more than a little force, even if it's stuck, b/c those thin sections of plastic will break. Better practice on the junkyard car first. Once you get the cheap fragile plastic off it's just a few screws and unplugging a couple plugs to get the face plate off, piece of cake.
