Angry A/C causing High Coolant Temp

Just this past weekend I replaced my waterpump with a brand new one. I changed both housing and pump gaskets with no leaks. replaced tstat, hoses and radcap.

thinking this would solve my high coolant temp problem, it did help, but not completely. My problem is that my coolant temp will heat up when I have the A/C on. It's kind of intermittent also. If i turn A/C on, it'll be fine for 10-15 min, but then temp will rise to just under 3/4 and then go back down. I also noticed that if I idle the car in one spot (5min)it doesnt heat up, but when i take off from the stop about a mile later it will start to heat up again.

i dont know what could be causing this. I have an efan w/shroud and just replaced my coolant parts. could i possibly have air in the system? i never had a problem with my a/c until recently. any advice or info would be great, it's getting hot and this is bugging the hell out of me. thanks guys

First does the overheat occur in traffic AND on the highway or just the traffic?

If it is in traffic your Efan sucks...I would put the factory fan/shroud back. Also, there is an electric fan infront of the condensor...I would verify it is working...

Also, you should stop guessing at your water temps. Looks like you have spent a lot of money in mods.... and NOTHING to moniter what is going on....

i doubt it's the e-fan. i drove from LA-NC with the efan no prob. i even used the A/C on the way w/o problems but NOW it starting to do this. it seems more like on the highway than traffic. i'll drive it some more to see exactly what causes this. i didnt know about any fan in front of the condensor but I'll check to see if i have one. what fluid goes in the condensor anyway?

your right about the water temp gauge, that'll definitely be my next investment.

Yeah, you need a water temp gauge man....esp with what you are doing with your car....way above stock horsepower.

Well, if it overheats worse on the highway I would agree with you on the electric fan not being a problem.

And about that fan that is infront of the condensor...that is just for driving around town...that fan won't do anything at highway speeds.

Do you still have that plastic undertray that goes under the car? If not put it back in...

Also, Go buy some foam that you would stuff around a window AC unit....and stuff it in spots so you force all the air to go thru the oil/water cooler. That can make a difference. For instance.....look at the top of your radiator....the space between it and the that piece of frame that goes across the car between the headlights.

Is there a gap there? If there is that is a spot you want to put the foam. Everybit helps...

It really is more gas than fluid in the condensor since it is part of the AC system. When you filled up the coolant system did you use a 50/50 water coolant mix?

Here's the problem...

The AC evaporator core(?) is in front of the radiator.
When the AC is not working, the core doesn't do anything.
When the AC is working, the core is busy trying to exchange heat from the refrigerant.
So this adds MORE heat in front of the radiator.
In most automobiles, there's a fan that helps with cooling, when the AC is on.
OUR STUPID TINY ELECTRIC FAN SUCKS.
Trust me, I've watched it when my AC was working, and the water temp ALWAYS went up when the AC was on.
This implies the electric fan is dead or not working good enough - [B]Wankel7[/B} is right.

Have you checked the sight glass on your ac system to make sure you have the proper R12/R134 charge? The FSM shows how to do this test with the sight glass. Improper freon charge can cause the compressor to run too much, or rapidly kick the compressor on and off... I have accedentally charged an AC system too high and the car would damn near shut off from the load on the ac compressor when it kicked on... That added load on your engine would definately make it run warmer than normal... Just a though
