Buying a TII, what to look for?
hey
what things should I look for in a TII? like what will cost alot to fix and things like that. one more thing he says that the TII has 27400 miles on it is this very uncommon? or what? what does give away the fact of a turned back milage clock in a TII besides the usual things ( worn seats just in general worn out car)? i trust the guy its just that less than 30 k for a 88? hard to belive. the car is a red 1988 TII with a turbo timer and a drop in filter. OK well thank you very much for your time and response

ask him if it's been sitting long. if it hasn't been run frequently the apex seals are bad and you'll need a motor shortly. also check the clutch and shifter, shifter bushings and new rubber boots will run $90.

Pull off the TID. Pull on the compressor turbine. If it wiggles up and down, a LITTLE is not bad. But if it pulls out AT ALL, time for a rebuild. ALso check for smoke at startup and for oil in the in intercooler. Take a socket wrench with you as well as a 13/16 park plug socket. Remove the plugs and crank the engine. You should hear 3 even "Whoosh" as the apex seals pass the wholes. If you can, take a compression tester and check for compression on both rotors. Sitting does not necessarily mean a bad thing, but may not be good either.
$90 for bushings? Are you nuts? www.mazdatrix.com sells the bushing for $17 shipped and the boots for like $20. The boots do go bad, but when I replaced my bushing on my 91 w/ 100k miles, they were perfectly fine.

Ask for receipts of any work done eg oil changes, etc. Then check the date and mileage. Check clutch and brake pedal for wear. Check exhaust system. See if mufflers are original. Black oval with large chrome tips welded on. Check "Y" pipe. Should be original with silver metal covers.
Another chech-On inside the wheels. At 25,000 miles they should be pretty darn clean.
Good Luck
