I am Looking at a 1986 RX7 n/a that a friend has. He will sell it to me for $1400. I am going to have a mechanic look at it and let me know if there is anything major wrong with it. I was Just wondering if this was a good price to buy at. It is all stock right now.

Well, how many miles does it have? Does he keep good maintenance records? Etc... It sounds like a pretty good price...but any more info would help us help you 

Ohh yeah...it has 146000 miles on the engine. The Clutch is only a 1-1 1/2 years old. It has a life of 120000 miles from what he says. He did not put in the clutch it was put in befor he bought it. He has some service records from the previous owner, he did all his own wrk on it when he got it. so there are no records of what he did. He has told me every thing that he can think of and since we live in the same dorm everytime he thinks of something new he tells me. There is one little rust spot on the drivers side. He said it was nothing big and could be taken care of relatively easy. And it needs new struts but he said could go a little longer on the ones it has.

As usually get a certified Mazda compression test on the engine to determine how good the APEX seals are.
If the scores are high and the car's in great shape, then get it. If the scores are medium-low then ask him to knock of a little. Rebuilds aren't that expensive either.
I believe the 86 SE rx-7 typically need an engine rebuild around 200-300K miles.
Are you new to rotary cars and rx-7s? If so you're in for a great treat as the rx-7s have one of the hugest followings, tons of aftermarket performance upgrades, bodykits, accessories, suspension upgrades, etc.. One of the best / most affordable sports cars and the 86-91 SEs, GTU's, GXLs, and sport models make a great 1st sports car.
You should also check out your local rx7 club and go to one of their meets if you can. They're lots of fun.

The seals were changed at 100000 miles should they still be fine. Or should i get the test done still.

Couldn't hurt, but you'd probably get a good score if you've only got 46K miles on the rebuilt engine.
Are you having a good rotary mechanic look at it? I wouldn't recommend the dealership or a non-sports car mechanic.

JUST GO FOR IT MAN. They are the tightest cars out there. However, my 89 has the same amount of miles and probably **** for apex seals but who cares. Next year is a rebuild and then new mufflers, intake, and radiator and woola. Great car cheap, unique, and can blow the doors off of my stupid friends and their dumb rustangs, civics, talons, and my old Iroc Z. And on top of it the motor only weighs in at about 75 pounds. You won't go back to anything else once you get into your first FC. I can't stand the anticipation of letting the damn thing stay in storage over the winter, that is how much I want to drive it.
i live in Keene NH but i am at school in protland maine right now. i would have to pass on the 85 i am loing for a second gen also.
