Ok, so my current battery has conked out, and I need to buy a new one. I was hoping to get a lighter one, but I do not have indefinite resources to pay for one. I cannot afford an Optima Red Top, even though I wish I could. 15 pounds would be great but 185 bucks is just too much for a poor college student to spend on a battery. Does anyone have any other ideas? If I just need to get another regular battery, if I can't afford an aftermaket one of any kind, what is the smallest one I can get that will still provide plenty of juice for turning the car over. Lighter is always better in a convertible. Thanks guys.
you can get something like this:

It starts the car no problem. I started it a few times for the guys at the FC meet last weekend, and it cranks just as fast as any high output car battery. The only problem is, its roughly 200 dollars. If you on a budget, just get yourself interstate. its fine.

Yes, if you read my post I knew about that. I was wondering if there were any other oppurtunites. I wish I could afford something like that. It would make me very happy and cut a lot of weight off the car, but I just can't justify spending 200 bucks on a battery. Are there any other alternatives that anyone knows about?

Um, once the car is started the battery doesn't do anything. It only starts the car. It is your alternator that powers everything that runs while the engine is turning. The question is more, can you alternator handle the stereo system without burning out?

the battery is a hawker. Nick at N-tech sells the replacement batteries. I bought mine locally and paid a bit more.

Just do a quick Alta Vista search for DVS Technologies. I saw the name on the battery.
CYM-How much did it cost exactly, and how much does it weigh? How long have you been using it, and has it kept up ok? Thanks a bunch for indulging me.

I paid like 195. But i bought it for a local shop at Sears Point Raceway, so i paid a little extra. I needed it ASAP, so i cant complain. I never weighed it (dont have a scale). You can grab it with one hand and hold it, id say between 6-10lbs. A buddy of mine has one in his FD, has had it for over a year. They last about a year and a half to 2 years. They do NOT like to be deep cycled. So its a trade off, you get a battery thats tiny and weighs very little, but doesnt last as long.
Conventional wet lead-acid batteries only come in two types: light or grunty, not both! The batteries power is directly related to the size and munber of the plates, so the bigger and heavier it is the gruntier it is.
