Buying 88T2....advice?

A friend of mine found a 88 Turbo II with 94k on it....red paint, gray leather....says it runs perfectly fine but smokes a little bit due to a blown seal...(i think he said oil seal)...the guy wants 1300 OBO for it.....i know its going to need a rebuild very soon but im thinking he could get it for like 800-900 bucks because the owner doesnt know he needs a rebuild.....worth it?

if it runs i wold than i would put a seal kit and some new apex seals in and call it done and drive it.. you could have a TII for under 2k....

Couldn't it be something like a leaking turbo?

yea i it could be a bad turbo too. but you always have to look at it in the worst case senario.. i would assume the worst but hope for the best.. if tha makes sence. look at the good side though. if the motor only has bad oil control rings it will run like that for a while. but when you go to rebuild it all of the internals and housings inad iorns should be good since its not a blown rotor only a whiped out seal.. if the interior is good and body is decent i dont really see a down side.

Ya check the compression. Hopefully its not modded too much. Check the cooling (Take it out during the day and see if it gets hotter than 1/3 on the temp gauge with the AC on max). Should shift smoothly, tight drivetrain/suspension/brakes. Steering should be smooth. Anything else is rebuildable. IF your getting a complete car 1200 isnt bad.
