Brakes ran out of pads and fused to calipers. Need advice.
Hey guys. Long time since I've been on here and I have a problem:
My rear brakes were smoking and so I took the tire off to look at it and I found the pads have been entirely worn through on the one side only.
I attempted to remove the caliper. I've changed these in the past and am pretty sure all I had to do was undo the one bolt and swing the caliper up and remove them. That's it right?
Well, the caliper will not budge. I can see that the metal from the pad is touching the rotor and I assume it has fused to the pad, but can this be broken free? Has anyone found a way to fix this? I'm thinking smack it with a big hammer?
I have limited work space in a parking lot I'm not supposed to be working on cars in which sucks, but I have to fix it before I drive it more and I don't want to pay a shop 100s of dollars to do what I should be able to at home. I do have a pretty good selection of tools.
Thanks. Hope everyone's RX cars are treating them great.

Hard to say from a distance but I'd probably release the e-brake cable and either crack the bleeder or just remove the hose altogether (the lack of pad may have hyperextended the piston beyond the seal's ability to retract it).
Then whomp on the caliper with a dead blow, see what shakes loose.
