Brake pedal freeplay trouble
Brake pedal freeplay trouble
Okay. The shop manual says to adjust the freeplay of the pedal to between .16 in and .28 in. I adjusted it to about .75 and it seems to be to much as when you drive the car. The brakes apply themselves when they heat up and the brake fluid expands. What am I doing wrong. Can anyone give me a good way of adjusting pedal freeplay. I've tried this several times and have had to back the freeplay off way to much. I have the 5 lug system by the way.
Are you certain a piston isn't sticking? A deteriorated brake hose will not release and cause a piston to "hang" up. If it's ok when car first driven, then something wrong with system.
The front calipers were rebuilt about a 5 months ago. I just redid the rear brakes yesterday and both pistons backed off for me. I have stainless steel lines. This only happens after a bit of driving. If I pull over a couple minutes and let them cool down the brakes release. The brake pedal will literally loose all play in it and become solid.
