Brake mods
I've got an '86 with the 4-lug setup. The braking power is completely inadequate when I drive hard (5 minutes of hard downhill mountain driving and they fade away). I would like a setup that can take 20 minutes or so of track time on "track day". Do you think this is doable with the 4-lug setup and single piston calipers? I have cheap aftermarket pads and stock rotors, which frankly have been turned a couple of times.
Thanks,
Eric

You can also head to a junk yard and get a set of TII 4 piston calipers for like $20 a peice. Then, rebuild them witht the kit from www.mazdatrix.com, and slap on some Hawk HP+ pads, and more than double your stopping power for under $100.

Just the calipers won't work. You need the whole gig to upgrade. Rotors are a different width, as well as vented for that setup. Don't need to goto a T2 car, any 86-88 GXL has those brakes.
However, if you want to stick with 4 lug single piston brakes, tmak is right on the money, better pads.
