I don't want to go too far out on a limb here but I'm about 65% that's correct.

The other 35% is trying to imagine whatever else it could be...and not doing too well.

it can't be a hard test, the last time i did one, i didn't need to bring the car.

You didnt have to bring the car? Did you just pay them? I was under the impression that you have to bring the car and they have to check lights to make sure they work properly but I think this test is made so they could get a bunch of cars off th I'm just trying to get some information so I can pass is test get my Fc the back on the road. And I know the website for the California dot gov DMV website is not giving accurate information or any information to what it entails anybody else out there have any info or have done a break and inspection on there rx7

I think the only math on the test that I heard of this may be the adjustment of the high beams and a Priceline $179.00 dollars.

While there may be soem unique needs for resurecting a salvave title, this appears to be a real crock fromthe state of CA. After having reviewed the web site cited, the check seem to make common sense. However, this is never done for an active registration / car check for reregistration. While a good idea, no one ever checks brake and lamp operation for reregistrtation. Not even during the great smog inspection process. Just another way to make money that likely does not make a difference in the safety of vehicles on the road.

I agree with you buddy 100 percent I know they have a email down there but I don't think I'll get a straight answer as to what they're testing I know they're going to test lights in the brakes but I think the guys have a discretion to fail the vehicle and also sucks at the State of California can be transparent with this inspection.

I did it to revive a salvaged car. I believe that's the only time it's required. There is no form online or anywhere available telling you what they actually inspect. I never got a itemized list after the inspect either.

Basically, they check that the brakes work and all the exterior bulbs light up when they're supposed to.
Including the side markers. Cost about $100. For the price, it's a ripoff, but there isn't really any way around it since it's required by the DMV.

This is weird... it just sounds like a normal inspection. They are supposed to make sure the pedal isn't mush and the lights work.

In NY, you register the car and they give you a 10 day temp inspection to get the car checked. Sounds like it's backwards in Cali?!

It seems to me after all these years, it's best to not own a car in Cali. And by that I also mean never live there.

That is part of the safety inspection in Texas. They do this with or without the probe in your tailpipe.

This year is the first year I am safety only and they just check your lights, seat belts and wipers.

It's $12.50 LOL.

You only have to do the test in California if your car is a salvage title to reinstate it into the road and its a one time deal but its the smog check that you have to do bi annually but California does have the highest EPA standards and States
