Brake Hell

My brakes make a grinding sound even when I am not using them. I bought new pads but the damn bolts stripped all to hell cuz they're so damn old. This is hell, lol. I can't seem to get that **** off. You guys think if I take it to a brake place they can get that **** off? I can't stand this **** anymore. Thanks.

The shop should be able to take what ever off. Be sure to go to a good shop. I used to go to Sears, Pep Boys for brakes on my Buick. That was a waste of money as the parts were all worn within 20k mi and they forced me to replace rotors that weren't under spec. I don't think they know the MIN spec, they just take the factory new spec. Even to this day, I still get shops that try to rip me off by telling me that the rotors are under spec. I got tired so I learned how to change my own pads. It turned out to be real easy.

Which bolt are you referring to? The bolt that holds the brake pads? Also, do you know if your rotors are warped? Use a caliper measure to test a few places to see if it's uniform. Did you bed-in the pads and use the shims? I used disc-brake-quiet on the shims so I haven't had problems but you have to bed it in by taking 6-10 stops at 30-40MPH.

If your rotor are no good, don't bother turning them. Just get new ones (either solid or slotted).

Someone was selling a complete set of rotors for $400 or something last wk. Do a search on brake or rotor.

Brakeco.com (800-428-7278) sells plain rotors pretty cheap for $80 or so each. Chk with brakewarehouse too at 800-214-4034. I got my Hawk HPS pads from Tirerack. Pegauses racing has the pads for $37 a set. That's way cheap for such a quality pad.

Yea, they had some on ebay for 175, all 4, cross-drilled with pads. All brand new. I only wish I had money right now.
