bov stories
Just wondering if you guys had any stories or what you thought when you got your bov put on.
I myself have been wanting a turbo and a bov as far as i can remember wanting a car. Well the day finally came. I ordered a greddy type s but the flange wouldn't fit on the IC piping. So the guy at the shop said we can either run you new ic piping and put it on or put this other bov we have on. I said what's the other bov. He replied with, " hks ss" i said sound good he said oh yeah. Plus it cost a little more and i won't even charge you. So i said straight put it on. after it was done i reved up the engine hearing no bov. i said that's not a good sign he said take it out and get some boost you'll hear it. so i pulled out and heard a nice mixture of my new bov and my turbonetics wastegate. sounds pretty good together. When i was pulling down a street to my neighborhood i was turning in front of a mustang looked like a v6 98 or so. i noticed he was rolling down his window at that point i redlined first and then let off letting out a nice bov chirp when i looked in my rear view mirror i just say a hand sticking out the window giving me a thumbs up. Made me soooo happy. Anyway just thought i would share anyone else got any good stories.

I put mine in, rev'd my engine and it went........pffffffftt. That's my story.
That flange for the Greddy Type S will fit, you just need to use a piece of silicone hose that can be tightend around the smaller inlet..... I know it doesn't matter now but I thought I would just point that out.

Am I the only one here who thinks this is really, really sad that people want a performance orientated turbocharged car just so they can wet themselves over hearing it's least performance related part?

Now for my story
I just got my apexi bov kit in the mail when I just came home from school for lunch, I skiped 3rd and 4th and installed my bov. Well after school my cuzin who is the same age as me comes by and asks me why I wasnt in school, I told him stand by my engine. He says ok he is standing beside the right front wheel(the hood is up) I reved the car and all u heard was this loud PSHHHHHHHHH I think I made him jump 5 feet high. After I stoped laughin my ars off, I told him thats why I wasnt in school
I no longer have the apexi bov but I just ordered a blitz SS cant wait to hear what it sounds like.

Ya I put my Turbo XS in and turned the car on with the hood open and my friend standing right in front of the car. Was so loud he had to take a few steps back because it kinda hurt his ears I love the way mine sounds, but doesn't make a sound without boost

when i first got my BOV, i ghetto rigged it up, no piping, because TURBOXS size is small, the TYPE RFL didn't do crap when i rev'd it, then after i did the FULL TB mod, it works but i got to rev it around 6 really fast, it goes off even at 2k rpm while driving, boost doesn't really hit until 3.5k, now i rev it goes off pPPSSSSHhhhhhAWAAAAA, sometimes at low *** boost it would sound like niiIIKKK nIIKKKK, air hitting metal, but most of the time it goes PhhphphpAHHHhhhhhhhAAAAAAAWWWWWww

Hey here is a link to that BOV sound y'all love so much.
http://page.freett.com/S_T_P_Japan/BOV-SOUND.htm
I bought my BOV from these guys and I was pretty happy with it. However I am not sure I have it hooked up right. Does anyone have an HKS single blow off valve that has two vacuum nipples on it? I can provide pictures if that helps. But it has a metal one the side and a black plastic nipple on the top. With the weather the way it is I can't tell what is happening to my RX.

And for all you haters, a BOV is a performance part. It saves turbo life, and in the process has a side benefit of quicker re-spool when you shift. And most factory ones won't hold above-stock boost levels without leaking.

I agree with your comment regarding factory jobbies though.

shut up it's a known fact that you need a bov especially at high boost. You're also lying i doubt you have seen cars running insane high boost with out a bov.

my bov story:
after owning my car for 2 days i need a bov
having no money and a spare car in the back yard i decided to take the bov out of my old car and put it into the 7. After about 15 mins under the bonnet, bov was installed, didn't fit proper. The adaptor side was alot bigger than the bov inlet. bov inlet had a diameter of about 2 cm, maybe 3 at most.
Took it out for a drive, hit full boost, and the bov popped off. Lost it, it literally blew off!
on another note: most of the fastestest shop drag cars in australia DO NOT use bovs, externals would do the same job, with a hell of a better sound !

nope
it's not noise pollution
it's air pollution
rules in melbourne, australia are:
you are allowed to have a bov aslong as it doesn't vent to the atmosphere. You can strike off almost every aftermarket bov on the market.
turbosmart do have a bov that does not vent to atmoshpere!

In fact one could argue that you would get better speed through the gears wihout a BOV because of the preasure stored in the pipe.

You drop the throttle for a gearchange or because you spot the donut patrol, and the throttle slaps closed.
If you have a BOV, it opens and lets the pressure vent out to then atmosphere, (or back into the intake) and the considerable momentum that an object spinning at that speed contains causes it to keep on spinning until you manage to find your next gear.
If you don't have one, the pressure in the turbo pipe leading to the engine soars, since all that spinning momentum in the turbo makes it keep on cramming out air, but the air has nowhere to go. This stalls the turbo, making a weeeeshesheshesheshe noise usually, dropping turbo rpm's like crazy (so longer to spool for after the gearchange) and bending a blade if you're unlucky.
People argue that there are racing teams that run no BOV. There are a lot of racing teams that do a lot of dumb crap to their cars. If someone praised some bit of automotive technology and said "That's how they do it in NASCAR" they better be talking about rollcage construction...
