BOV Spring Problems.....

Hello all,

I am running a Turbo XS Type S on my TII and am running into a problem. I'm at 10psi and my BOV isnt opening all the way under load There was a little bit of gunk in the chamber, so I cleaned it/ lube it and it helped a little. The problem is that the spring feels like it should be used under alot more boost(like upper 20's) I the Turbo XS website and it says that this BOV is for 12psi and under so I dont know whats the problem. Should I try cutting the spring shorter so it can release better? I'm not really sure what is going on here, can anyone help me out?

are u talking about a wastegate? a "Turbo XS Type S" is a blow off valve. a blow off valve is designed to open after u boost and let off the throttle.

IF u are talking about a wastegate it sounds like ur wastegate is stuck or spring is too big. did it ever run at normal boost with this wastegate? u got a pic or a diagram of how u got the vacuum lines are routed?

what turbo are u running?

the blow off valve isn't made to control boost. you got a wastegate problem.

Sorry they are a little dark, but this was the best I could get at 11PM.

Heres the BOV-

Thanks man. Have you ever heard of washers to controle the spring rate? Their site said I could use those.

i would think that that would make the spring seem harder**even more boost creep**only thing i can think of and yes im pulling this one out my ***,is heating the spring would soften the tention...thats what happens when people heat there suspention springs

bov has nothing to do with boost control. take a pic of the wastegate acutator and vacuum line to it.

how long have u had this setup?

My setup has about 1500mi on it. I'm really starting to think that my bov spring is too tough because its not opening all the way.

Do you have the stock BOV? IF so try putting it back on.

i still dont understand the problem.
its either
A: wastegate isnt opening all the way - boost goes higher than you want
or
B: blow off valve isnt opening enough - doesnt release intake pressure fast enough.

if A
i see you have the turbo xs boost controller. on the top, turn the screw all the way to the (-) side. that will send all the pressure to the stock wastegate actuator and will open it at 8psi. you can then turn it back towars the (+) side to get to the boost level you want. trial and error.
if that doesnt work, your wastgate is too small, so port it more.

if B
there isnt really a priblem here that would affect you boost in any way. (other than if it were stuck open, but that would cause you to not build any boost. )

you can also disemble the BOV (should unscrew apart liek a big cap) and there may be some washers under the spring. remove those and the BOV will open with less force.

where do you have the bov vaccum line conected too??? i had the same problem you have, my bov wasn't opening at all and all i heard was turbo surge. it came down that i wasn't getting any vaccum at all where i had the bov vaccum line conected, i put it in another place that there was vacuum and problem fixed.

The Mrs. has that same BOV on her car with a stock turbo. Your video sounds just like her car blowing off at low boost, her BOV releases in one quick burst after full boost. I have no springs in her BOV to make it as soft as possible. I would try changing your vaccum source and see if that helps. I had the same problem you are having with my Greddy type S and the fix for it was a better source of vaccum.
