bov, recirculate or not?
anyone here running performance modded cars and recirculated or does everyone suggest goin open air? recently some locals have been pulled over and impounded for the open release but i want to know performance wise too.
as far as peromance wise, only thing i have heard is it causes more detonation

Doesn't matter how well your car performs if it's locked up in a impound yard.
For the record, I recirculate mine.
From what I've heard, the only issue I know of is an emmission one where venting in the air leads to a moment of slightly richer fuel since the AF meter doesn't see the blow off. My local smog guy will pass BOV's if they're recirculated and fail if they aren't.

First of all, it is stupid to do anything to your car that would get it impounded.
As for performance, if your car has the stock airflow meter, then an open-air BOV will actually HURT performance. This is because the airflow meter tells the ECU how much air is going into the engine. If the BOV blows some of this air out of the system, then the engine will run rich because the ECU has no way of knowing that the air has been removed. This rich condition will cause bogging between shifts, making the car accelerate slower. A typical idiot street racer will not realize this because the "pshhhht" noise makes the car sound like it is going faster.
The type of BOV will not affect detonation.

Check out blow through maf setups. Ive bearly seen it down on rx7s but some do it *just not with the stock top mount ic*, just not high horsepower applications 300+hp. Ive did this on my old sr20 with venting bov, best way to go if your gonna vent it out.
