Bought an Rx-7 today.

So I got my first 7... I'm going to pick it up on Saturday... $400 cash... It's not as nice as the some of the $400-500 you lucky guys find... but its decent, the car is respectable, needs a new driver side fender, some work on the driver side rocker panel, and an engine... but should be a fun car when done. Rx-7s are rare in this area of NY so I feel I got a good deal on it, plus its only 20 min away so no long haul to go pick it up.

Im hanging around with the wrong group of friends... when I told them about the rx-7 that I was looking at I had to explain the rotary engine... I wouldnt let them touch it now, sober... they would be useless after a few beers. I think I'm going to go with rotary resurrection for my rebuild. The full atkins kit is just a little less than a rebuild and hopefully it will give me a reliable engine for the next few years. I'm trying to get an FB from the same guy for little to no money with an extra engine so I can fool around with the rotary in that.

omg i seriously hope u know how to do advance body work, the car i bought got hit at the fender on the rocker panel also, i was quoted 2500 at the very least since its a unibody frame and it counts as restoration since the rocker panel is part of the frame

At least you've found the right group of friends here. Although Albany isn't exactly spitting distance from cooperstown, let me know if I can help at all. My friends and I are always up for a road trip.

Yeah... Damn unibody cars.. . I was worried about that but I'll see what I can do once I get the car. My uncle used to work at a body shop and is into restoring mustangs, so he might be able to help me there... I was thinking that I could just get it close and then get some side skirts or something...maybe cut it out and weld a straight peice in? The rest of the frame looked straight as well as the other lines in the area, he said he went into the ditch on a gravel road (Don't know if it would have been a hard enough hit to damage the frame) and the door still opens and closes easily... So I don't know... If its unfixable I might just part the car and look for a turbo II.

you can probably get it close then add body filler, if you don't have lowspots then body filler works well and looks good. unibody is awesome, atleast you don't get 10 mpg and weigh 5000-6000 lbs. (maybe thats exagerated). good luck with the car, and get the fb too i love my turbo I and my first gen, they're almost just as fun to drive as each other even though the turbo 2 is way faster and nicer.

The body on the FB is shot... rusty on the back near the hatch glass, rusty on the bottom of the passengers door, the car was red, painted green... green is peeling off and the red is showing through... The fenders arent attached at the bottom in the front, driverside door and front quarter are a different color green... 2, 4 spoke stock mazda wheels, 2, 5 spoke aftermarket wheels. Floors were soild and the bottom wasnt rusted through. 12A engine, coolant in the engine oil... owner can't find the other engine... but his brothers-in-law know where it is... He wanted to get $250 and I said I MIGHT pay 200 for it if the other engine could be located and it was in decent shape, because I could bondo the rust spots, or leave them... and race/autox it.

Your friends suck. I bought my 7 and everyone thought it was pretty neat. Then my other friend bought one soon after. He then supercharged it, blew the motor and we replaced it over a weekend. Finally my other friend wants to get one after I let him drive it.
