bought a new FC

Well, just got this thing, not for to much..

Anyways, now- ( albiet, in colorado 20 degree weather) It takes FOREVER to get it started. It will start rev to 1500~rpm, then die. After 15min. it starts, along with buckets of cloudy white smoke. However- when the car sits and idles to full temperature, the smokes clears away.

It never over heats, was never over heated... This is an s5- 1990 NA.

I am fairly certain this is caused due to a coolant seal. There is leaking from under the exh. Manifold, and little white smoke from the engine bay.

What are the opinions on the cause, and possible fixes ( other than rebuild/swap)

Thank you,
JC

congrats on your new seven!
It's easy to test and see if it's a blown seal or not, take the rad cap off and start it, if it gushes water at you, and you see lots of bubbles coming up, then it's a blown seal. The leak onto the exhaust manifold could just be a leaking hose. and the cold start problem could be a number of issues..... search search search!

I have done nothing but search this and other issues since I got the car several weeks ago. Just couldnt find anything.

When warming up- I took off the cap, and it occasionally bubbles, I figured it was air in the system burping itself. But could leaking hose ( I couldnt find one) cause the ridiculous amounts of smoke from the exhaust pipe?

Thank you for your response so far...

The easiest way to test is by using an appropriate cooling system pressure tester.

Maybe flooding, from running rich for example.

www.aaroncake.net has a cooling system test.

It has been sitting for about 2 weeks, me starting it periodically.

I feel stupid, I have not checked the coolant, nor have I coolant pressure tested the system. My car will run - for 30min ( prob longer, I turned it off) with out the EGI fuse, or injector fuse.

It is all white smoke- and comes directly out of the exhaust- I have never seen a car smoke this bad. I am not a newb to problems, but still converting from DSM- to rotary..

Could it really just be flooded?

I have to wait until the weather clears, my car is outside- no garage?
