a boost control thread!!

as i am about to install a manual boost control on my s5 i find myself wondering:
what is the highest boost you can safely run with stock injectors?
what kind of boost control are y'all using, and what kind of results have you had?
how many of you have had "extremely negative" results and why?

You like it because of the swirl. I'm not kidding, that swirl just asks to be liked.

Anyway, I think people run 8-10 psi, try the dyno section?

i dont use a boost controller, but this might help you as far as higher boost:

the wastegate actuator on my car has been shortened, allowing to build more boost before it opens the wastegate, it boosts about 10psi right now. i also do not have an FCD. i found out that if you unplug the boost sensor vacuum line, and cap it off on the motor, your car will run rich and you can boost it with no fuel cut. the line off the boost sensor is just tucked up underneath the sensor, not closed off or anything. i have an autometer a/f gauge, and even at 10 psi its not anywhere close to lean. the downside to this is its always running rich, and it hurts your gas mileage, cuts it down to about 14-15mpg. only other mods i have are a k&n air filter and 3' turbo back exhaust on a streetport motor.

i dont know how safe this technique is, but i havent had any trouble out of it. if you added a manual boost controller, im sure you could reach higher boost levels safely. i've never heard of anyone else doing this either, so it may only work in certian applications.

if you try it and decide to go back to having it plugged up, make sure to reset your ecu.

your paint job is amazing, just throw some clear on it. reminds me of my primer flames job i had on my old bmw.

What kind of exhaust do you have right now? Open exhaust should make the boost run higher anyway.

Honestly, even with a ported wastegate I've had boost spiking problems on my s5 turbo. When it's cold out it will spike to 14-15psi even without a boost controller. This is with a full 3 inch turboback exhaust.

i guess i should add that i'm running a full open 3" exhaust and a haltech e6k so no probs there, but i also only get 5 lbs of boost thanx to my huge FMIC and piping....as far as the paint job goes....it's just primer, but everyone likes it so much it may stay like this for a while...i must admit i get a huge grin on my face every time i look at it...but not just from the paint
