Bolt question

Well this sorta just popped up in my head for some reason. And it is an interesting question. The long bolts that compress the rotor housings and irons together. What are they made of. But that is not really the question at hand. If someone were to make the bolts out of stronger metal like chromoly or something of that nature to resist breakage. Would the tourqe specs on the bolt change at to reflect the streching of thebolt at all. I am sure that Mazda set the touqe specx to compensate for the streching but if they were replaced with a stronger bolt, one that didnt strech as much, and you torqed them to factory specs wouldnt this cause more stress on the housings and iron.

Just thought I would ask.

It would make sense, except...

...those things rarely break.
Most of the pics you see of broken tension bolts is usually due to overrevving, insufficient installation / torque spec, or the rare manufacturing defect.

Making the stronger does not make the motor stronger.
Detonation will still kill the apex seals, not the tension bolts.
Detonation will still kill the rear iron at the oil filter pedestal (S4), not the tension bolts.
Detonation will still kill the front iron by the banjo bolt boss for the turbo oil supply line, not the tension bolts.

Are you getting the picture?

If you insist on stronger tension bolts, Mazda already makes them.
They come stock on the Cosmo 20B - the tension bolts are thicker.
Also, there are several vendors that offer "stud kits" which are stronger.

Oh yeah I had already understood that. About the apex seals and such. I looked at a few sites and didnt see any. I am not interested in doing it for myself. Like i said it just popped up in my head about how you would tighten them. Although I did think that they snapped regularly. Thanks for clearing that up.
