Question Bolt around thermostat striped

Hey guys I have a 88 T2, well I got the car and it just over heats and loses all of its coolent. Well a closer look shows one of the bolts where the elbow meets the thermostat is striped. How would you fix somthing like that or is it fixable at all?

Thanks

Replace the bolt.

Or if you meant the housing is stripped then either drill and tap it for a larger bolt, helicoil it or replace the waterpump housing.

No matter which of the above three options you choose- I'm partial to either #2 or #3- you can avoid the problem in the future by using studs/nuts instead of bolts to hold the cover on.
