Bogs at 1500, no idle, need some ideas!

'91, non-turbo.

Not to long ago my car started acting kind of strange, after a while of driving my car would suddenly bog down and not go above 2700rpm, when the gas would be held down it starts making sort of a popping sound around 2700. Now, after replacing the main coil(thinking it could be the coil deteriorating) it didn't help. Checked the fuel pump, lines, filter, plug wires, plugs, and airflow meter. Nothing has helped, well, taking out the airflow meter and checking it actually made it worse, i might have broken it, won't idle now after that one... Now the car, after about 15 - 20 seconds of driving it bogs at about 1500 and begins to make the popping sound when the gas is held down all the way. The car will get up to 2000, lose power till just under 1500, go back up to 2000, and drop again so long as you hold the gas down... I can't get it to gradually go up either.

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some ideas of things I should be checking to narrow down the problem here, also, if anyone knows someone that has had this problem before, I'd like to get in contact with them to see what they did to resolve this.. I really hate diagnostics.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated with this, I can't for the life of me figure this out. I've asked a lot of mechanics in my area and they don't seem to know a lot about rotary engines, so I presume it's up to me to figure this thing out. If anyone can help, I'd Really appreciate it. Thanks.

LZ

Well a simple start might be to have the alternator tested. If its malfunctioning, it will screw with afm and you will have poor proformance if none at all.

Its easy to take off because it sit right on top of your engine.

Take it out and test it to make sure its okay. And then....

Also, I think you might have to reset the ecu after messing with the afm....But I don't know for sure.

Somebody more knowledgable than myself might help you with that.

How would I go about reseting my ECU? What things could get worse as they warm up? Because like I Mentioned before, the car runs Great until it gets warmed up, then it won't go above 2000rpm and just pops and chugs along. I was told that it is a possibility that my Cat's could be plugged up, is that able to cause such a problem?

reset the ecu by disconnecting the negative battery terminal and hold the brakes for 10 seconds to make sure all electricity is out of the car and reconnect battery terminal.

Perhaps Clogged cats causing to much back pressure. Check to see if your cats are cloged.

Take off the cat and see if it runs better.
