Bogging, Tried TPS Adjustment, Spring Lost
My S4 NA has been on jackstands for a few weeks, in that time I've replaced the fuel filter, converted from an S4 to S5 radiator (thus loosing the Radiator Sensor Switch, I believe killing the cold start assist) replaced the water pump with a brand new unit, brand new OEM thermostat (with the hole on the top, but a bit towards the front of the engine bay), rebuilt the OMP, and that's all I've done in the engine bay.
Good news! I started it this morning, and it idled around 1500 rpm, but occasionally it would hunt for idle, (I'm aware of the FSM procedure for testing and correcting this), and when I turn the car off, but leave the key in the on position, I hear this strange repeated clicking, almost like a really fast cycling of some sort of relay. When I put my hand on the BACV, I feel a little vibration that coincides with said noise. When I remove the EGI COMP. fuse, the clicking/vibration goes away.
I decided to just go through problems, one by one, first I did the TPS adjustment. I started with the pair of lights, and then I was going to go to my trusty DMM just to verify that everything is perfect. As I was adjusting the screw, I couldn't get any lights to come on at all, so I went full counter clockwise until the screw just came out. (I know, I'm an idiot) I tried to put it back in, but fumbled and the little spring and washer have fallen into the depths of my engine. (Not really, but there's no room to grab anything that falls right there.
I assume I'll obviously need a replacement spring/washer, and I know a source. I was wondering whether this was indicative of a failed TPS though, since I couldn't get any lights lit.
The screw that I was adjusting was the one attached to the linkage that travels down the front of the engine to the mechanical OMP arm. I believe that's the proper one.
To recap:
1) New spring/washer I can just grab from another S4 NA parts car.
2) Is my TPS a failed unit? (I couldn't get lights to light up, although if I pressed down on the linkage, they would both light up about half throttle.
3) Am I as stupid as I feel?
