Bogging Issue / Spark Plugs - 1988 RX7 FC GXL

Question Bogging Issue / Spark Plugs - 1988 RX7 FC GXL

So let me get the stupid question take care first,

Does a rotary take different spark plugs compared to a piston motor or can I run like NGK's? (Rotary newb here) Also, what would be some better performance plugs to run?

Second question I have is that at times, my car seems to bog down at low RPMs and when I first start the car after it sitting for a bit, it starts fine, but after it idles down it chugs a little then dies. But it only does that once, after I start it the next time it idles fine.

Will that issue be resolved after I change the plugs and wires?

you need rotary plugs, a quick search will tell you exactly which ones. and for the other issue, nore info is needed. such as year, model, engine, miles, any mods.... etc etc

Your rotary can/should run NGK BUR7EQ and BUR9EQ...2 of each.

If you look at the NGK plugs, you'll see a "T" or an "L" on them. The T's are Trailing plugs and go in the upper plug holes. The L's are Leading plugs and go in the lower plug holes. Would be a good time to replace the plug wires too.

@barkz It's a 1988 RX7 GXL and it has 102k miles on it, no mods all stock.

And thanks Chuck, I was wondering why I was give two different sets of plugs. And yeah, I was going to go ahead and change the wires as well since this will be the first tune up since buying the car.

In addition to plugs & wires, test and set the Throttle Position sensor, idle speed and timing. You can run searches to find the particulars. These topics have been discussed numerous times. If you're still experiencing trouble after all this, then start looking for vacuum leaks.

Thanks for the help Chuck!

Looks like she just need some new plugs and wires, she runs a WHOLE lot better now since I put in the new ones.
