ON Body Restoration

Hey Everyone,

Wondering if someone can point me in the right direction. I have had a 86 FC for about two years and feel it's time I put some effort in to restoring the body.

The overall condition is fair for it's age however, there are several trim pieces which have either rusted, or started to come off the body. I was wondering if anyone knew of a online store or even local (Toronto area) shop where I can get some parts that I require.

I am sure I could get most of them from the dealership however, I am sure there are cheaper alternatives out there.

Appreciate your assistance.

Uday

You can check the dealership, but if they can even get the stuff you need, it will cost a small fortune. Your best bet would be to post a want ad in the classifieds.

What kinds of things are you looking for specifically?

Mazdatrix, while a bit pricey, might be a good place for OEM parts (not sure what type of trim they carry though..?).

Don't we have a Mazda Dealership we get discounts through on this board? Malloy Mazda or something?

Yes, for actual Mazda OEM parts, Malloy Mazda has great prices and Ray Crowe, the parts department manager, is an FD owner and good guy. I highly recommend them.

I'm guessing the OP is referring to the lower window trim for the doors when he mentions trim that is "rusting and starting to come off." The original Mazda parts were made of rubber-coated steel and had a tendency to rust then shed their plastic/rubber coating. These are not super expensive to buy. I think they're under $50 each. Well worth it for the improvement they make in terms of appearance and sealing the glass.

To the OP, I suggest downloading the parts fiche from the FAQ and getting some part numbers together, then give Malloy Mazda a call.

As far as cheaper alternatives to a Mazda dealer, there really aren't any. Collector interest in FCs hasn't exactly taken off to the point where an aftermarket has sprung up to start reproducing things like original trim. For a while Black Dragon was trying, but I guess it wasn't financially viable because they now only carry SA/FB parts.

From: Bye NYC. you SUCKED!
I have been getting parts for my FC.

so far I did complete new Shocks assembly (springs, nuts, bolts, boots, etc), complete new sways, DTSS delete installed, lots new bushings. tons of nuts and bolts, some trim pieces, some weather strip, and lots of other ****.

Reason I said "some" cuz some of the parts are no longer available from Mazda (that means they don't make them anymore)

Didn't even start taking drive train stuff off yet. Engine, Tranny, Rear diff. whatever stuff in between, mounts, other stuff. Those gonna cost $$$$.

so yea I still have tons of **** to buy. and it will NOT be cheap, even with my racer discount.

if you really want to go that route, prepare to spend some big bucks.

Mind you some parts you DON'T have to get OEM, like Exhaust related, some hangers, alternator, etc. You can get those cheaply at most chain auto store with a lifetime warranty.

Hey Guys,

Sorry for the delayed reply..thank you for all your feed back, I will take some pics over the weekend to show the extent of 'damage' and the parts I require to put her back in to shape.

I will check out the shops/business you have suggested to see what they price out.

Once again thank you for the quick reply.
