blown side seal? - NOOB
blown side seal? - NOOB
I have a 1990 RX7. Bought it to fix up. IT did not have an Engine.
My best friend has a 1989 and blew his motor. He gave me the motor incase I wanted to fix it.
His motor was rebuilt not long ago, alledgedly soon before he bought it. As it turns out one of the trailing coils in his car had the polarity reversed.
His Engine blew. We did a compression test and the one rotor is good.
The other rotor has compression on 2 sides of the rotor but not the third. HE said its a side seal.
I am BRAND new to the Rotary engine. He is pretty new as well.
IS it a side seal?
If so what will I need to replace as a Minimum? Should I tear apart that rotor and inspect everything since there was likely excessive carbon build up?
I believe the one rotor is fine since its coils were properly hooked up.
I am new to the Rotary engine but very excited and eager to learn
I want to know what parts I will need to get this engine running healthy
Thanks in advance...
Matty

you just won't know until you tear it apart. no one can make you an accurate shopping list, you need to make it yourself once the engine is apart or have one of everything on hand beforehand.
someone asked that the other day and the consensis is you can but you have to make sure that the housings that are not going to be taken apart must be clamped tightly together. you'd probably better off taking the whole thing apart and rebuild the whole thing. if you feel that the compression is good with the working rotor then you can reuse those seals
I may as well tear apart the whole thing and check it all out, better safe then sorry. and I hear sorry can be easy to come by with a Rotary engine, lol...
maybe do some mild port work while Im at it
Thanks for the help guys
