Blown Rotary

Need some advice... I sent my car to the Mazda dealership after fighting for 6 mo. to figure what the hell is wrong with it. Received the news today that the rear rotor is gone and 2 seals on the front is gone. The dealership tells me that the rotary engine can't rebuilt and it will run about 4 G's to get a new one. I don't buy this one bit, I have seen apex seal kits before for sale. I have the technical experience to take on this project if it is worth it. What should I do???

If what the dealership is saying is true, then it's gonna cost a bunch to fix that motor Give rob @ pineapple racing a call if you'd like -- they do good work (www.pineappleracing.com). If all those seals are gone, then you will probably need two new rotors, two new rotor housings, all new apex seals, gaskets, etc. Rotor housings are around 500 each from mazda, rotors are close to 400, and seals run about 800 for a set. I'm surprised they didn't offer you a remanufactured engine -- mazda sells remanufactured engines for about 2000 provided that you give them your engine as a 'core' engine. I'd give another dealership (or Rob @ pineapple racing) a call and get another quote!

Good luck!,

I can get a rebuilt mazda engine installed for $3600 cnd here. so like 2250usd... keep looking..

ps if the mazda dealership says it's blown. it could be anything. that is there excuse for any rotary that doesn't run. most don't know anything about them.

does it start or run at all? try to find a rotary shop. pineapple is good as said above. I have no idea how far from you it is though. I'm not sure if they even do installs though do they?
